About
Rob takes us room-by-room through one of his latest jobs – a modern housing development with Plumbing World products to the fore.
Kitchen
- Using the same tapware throughout the home creates a unified look and makes it easy when choosing a range you like.
- The kitchen has two sinks and an InSinkErator which adds functionality when preparing meals and cleaning up afterwards. Placing the InSinkErator in the smaller sink allows you to prepare and wash at the same time.
- Retention tanks were installed to supply water to the toilets from the excess stormwater pump water from the tank to the units on the development. There are many eco-friendly options for recycling rainwater available now and in situations where you are required to pay for your water usage, this results in cost savings also.
Bathroom
- Adding a separate powder room allows guests to use the bathroom without encroaching on your personal space. Selecting a small hand basin with a cabinet creates storage and gives you somewhere to hide the toilet rolls. Check that you have plenty of space to open the door and exit the space.
- If you choose not to install a bath in your home, select the largest shower you can fit to give you a luxurious bathing experience. Sliding doors take up less space in a bathroom than a pivot door or you could opt for a wet floor style with a fixed glass panel.
- If the shower is large you may have to compromise on a smaller vanity. Choose an option that gives you plenty of storage; drawers, doors or a mix of both. Some vanities come with hidden drawers inside which are fabulous for storing your make-up. A wall-hung vanity may offer slightly less storage however gives the impression of more space in a room.
- Installing a wall-hung mirror cabinet also adds storage without taking up valuable space. These can be recessed into walls and have the option of adding a light above or fixed to the cabinet.
- Matching overflow rings and pop-up wastes in your basin and shower extends the cohesiveness of your design.
- Adding a heated towel rail for extra luxury that tones in with your tapware keeps the towels toasty and warm. Continuing the colour theme with your robe hooks, toilet roll holders and towel rails as your tapware help the design elements to work together.
